We operate a shared care system between the GPs and the midwives at Dorset County Hospital. Antenatal clinics are held once a week at Chickerell Surgery, and Westham Sure Start Children's Centre, Radipole Lane for Abbotsbury Road patients, where you will be offered, in addition to antenatal checks, support and advice concerning all aspects of pregnancy, labour and postnatal care. There is no need to see a GP if you are pregnant - self-referral packs are available from Reception.

Post Natal Checks

All new babies will be invited for a 6 to 8 week check with a GP. This is to check on their progress and to ensure they are fit to have their baby immunisations. These appointments are usually made with a GP and then straight after with the Practice Nurse who will administer the 1st baby immunisations.

We do NOT routinely offer a post-natal check to new mums due to a lack of GP capacity. However, any new Mum who is concerned can book herself a post-natal check. Staff at either site who can currently offer this service are Dr Lane, Dr Brown, NP Ruth, NP Elaine and NP Pippa.
