Our Nurse Practitioners are highly-experienced and have undertaken additional training in the treatment of minor illnesses. They share the responsibility and workload with the GPs, and provide a high quality and easily-accessible service, and appointments can be made without firstly seeing a GP. They can prescribe and refer and always have access to the duty GP for advice if needed.
The practice nurses can be seen by appointment and perform procedures such as dressings, removal of stitches, ear syringing, cervical smears, blood pressure checks and child and adult immunisations. They also assist the GPs with minor medical and surgical procedures, and additionally provide advice and regular clinics, including:
- asthma and diabetes
- smoking cessation
- coronary heart disease
- well man/woman clinics
- health promotion
- new patient health checks
- NHS Health Checks
- teenage/travel health,
- immunisation and advice
- contraceptive advice & IUCD fitting by GP
- immunisations and autumn influenza vaccination
The Practice Nurses are supported by Health Care Assistants, who have been specially-trained to take blood samples, ECGs, blood pressure readings and new patient checks, and can be seen by appointment in the mornings at both surgeries.
