The community nursing team provides skilled nursing assessment, care, advice and health education to patients who cannot leave their homes. They work closely with the GPs and other health professionals to ensure that you and your family receive the help and support needed when nursed in the community. The community nurses can be contacted by leaving a message with the receptionists.
Is available to provide proactive health care to older people who have two or more long-term conditions and/or repeated, unplanned, avoidable admissions to hospital. The doctors will refer a patient to the community matron if they feel it appropriate to do so.

Our health visitors are specially-qualified nurses, based at Littlemoor clinic. They provide information, advice and support to families, and co-ordinate child development checks. They hold baby clinics every Wednesday morning at Westham Children's Centre, Radipole Lane and on the first Tuesday afternoon of each month at Chickerell; no appointment is necessary. They also work closely with the midwives and provide antenatal support and parentcraft classes. The health visitors' clerk, is available two mornings per week to assist the health visitors and deal with telephone enquiries.
We operate a shared care system between the GPs and the midwives at Dorset County Hospital. Antenatal clinics are held once a week on Friday mornings at Chickerell Surgery, and Westham Sure Start Children's Centre, Radipole Lane, for Abbotsbury Road patients, where you will be offered, in addition to antenatal checks, support and advice concerning all aspects of pregnancy, labour and postnatal care. There is no need to see a GP if you are pregnant - self-referral packs are available from Reception.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Chiropody: Our chiropodadist accepts GP referrals for patients with special podiatric needs. Patients over 70 do not need a GP referral. She attends Abbotsbury Road Surgery three afternoons per week and Chickerell Surgery twice a month. A domiciliary service is provided for patients unable to leave their homes.
Certain services provided by the GPs are not covered by the NHS. You may be asked to pay a fee/and there may be a need for a special appointment. The following are examples:
Private medical certificates, employment medicals, fitness to drive or travel, ENG1 and ML5 Seafarer Medicals, passport applications, holiday cancellation, PSV/HGV licences, fitness to attend private school, some vaccinations and vaccination certificates.
Please note a deposit of £20 will be required when booking an appointment for a medical.
Our Nurse Practitioner is a highly-experienced nurse who has undertaken additional training in the treatment of minor illnesses. She shares the responsibility and workload with the GPs, and provides a high quality and easily-accessible service, and appointments can be made without firstly seeing a GP.
The practice nurses can be seen by appointment and perform procedures such as dressings, removal of stitches, ear syringing, cervical smears, blood pressure checks and child and adult immunisations. They also assist the GPs with minor medical and surgical procedures, and additionally provide advice and regular clinics, including:
The Practice Nurses are supported by Health Care Assistant, who has been specially-trained to take blood samples, ECGs, blood pressure readings and new patient checks, and can be seen by appointment in the mornings at both surgeries,and additionally by two phlebotomists who are also trained to take blood samples for testing.
