When We Are Closed

out_of_hoursIf you are unwell in the evening, overnight or at the weekend and you need medical attention, when telephoning the surgery on you will hear a message stating that the surgery is now closed, and you will be asked to hang up and call NHS 1-1-1.

This service is for urgent medical situations if you or a member of your family becomes ill and you are concerned. It is not for routine enquiries such as booking appointments, repeat prescriptions, test results etc.

When your call is diverted to NHS 111, a trained member of staff will answer the phone and take details from you, which they will pass to a Doctor who will ring you back to ask you more about the problem and, with you, will decide the best option for you. Depending on the seriousness of the problem, this might be

  1. advice over the phone
  2. a visit to a local treatment centre, or
  3. a home visit by a nurse, doctor or paramedic

CALL 999 IN AN EMERGENCY. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

Please do not ask to see a Doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
